Ryan Reynolds Talks Deadpool 2 As Oscar Buzz Soars for Best Picture

Being nominated at the Golden Globes has given Ryan Reynolds more of an impetus to get the Deadpool 2 sequel underway. And, judging by his comments on the red carpet, it is just a matter of when the stars are aligned. Making waves on social media when he decided to kiss former Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield, just as Ryan Gosling was walking up to accept his award, the actor cut a calm, confident figure as he spoke to MTV News.

"We're still working on it," began Reynolds as he was quizzed on Deadpool 2. "We're not going to start until we're ready." Having secured John Wick director David Leitch following the departure of Tim Miller, the 40-year old is at ease over the project. "Everything feels great... Everybody is seamlessly locked in to the situation. It's been really amazing."

Best Picture At The Oscars? Don't Rule It Out

Deadpool Ryan Reynolds Interview

If it were any other movie that managed to be nominated for a Best Picture at the Golden Globes and the Producers Guild of America, no one would think twice about it's chances at the Academy Awards. But because this is a rude, crude superhero flick, it has been derided as cheap popcorn fun while the serious contenders make their pitch.

Yet the film is riding the crest of a wave right now having picked up two Critics Choice Awards, as well as Writers Guild Award Nominations for screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Reynolds himself made something of a hilarious pitch via an open letter. Where he went on to talk about the struggles on the production that dragged out for the "worst part" of a decade. Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield's relationship spanned beyond The Amazing Spider-Man, as the co-stars used to date off screen. Given the warm embrace of lips between Stone's former partner and the Deadpool star, ET thought they would show the footage to the La La Land actress alongside Gosling. To say that Stone was in a state of shock would be an understatement, laughing hysterically at the hijinks of the pair.

Gosling's Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes has skyrocketed their feature into favoritism for the Oscars. But there could be a surprise or two to come. Reynolds, on the other hand, is sure to keep people talking regardless if he wins or loses.
