New Thor: Ragnarok Concept Art as Tom Hiddleston Talks Funniest Chris Hemsworth Performance Yet

Marvel has gone outside the conventional box with the choice of Taika Waititi, letting him direct Thor: Ragnarok. A man more accustomed to the comedic and quirky scenes of What We Do In The Shadows and the television series Flight of the Conchords. But the New Zealand filmmaker is clearly wanting to carve out his own niche in the franchise. As the new installment will be taking more from the comic books than ever before.

These latest snaps featuring the villain Hera and a Hulk prepped with armor, an axe and sword to boot, are snippets of concept art derived by the Blu-ray bonus features from the Doctor Strange DVD. Showcasing all that is great about Marvel, Chris Hemsworth's character will clearly have his hands full as he takes on enemies from all sides.

Green Monster Goes Gladiator 2.0

While it is unusual to see Hera floating in the middle of a New York City alleyway, it is something altogether to see Mark Ruffalo's green machine kitted out in actual battle gear on Ragnarok. As the plot explains, he has been given the added protection to take on his former colleague in the God of Thunder. A prospect that threatens to excite and terrify all at the same time.

Film synopsis:

"Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!"

Hiddleston: Ragnarok Will Be Funniest Yet

Despite the scary rundown of an all-Avengers fight to the death, Tom Hiddleston outlined that the chemistry between the director and lead man was as good as can be expected. The Loki performer argued Thor: Ragnarok will portray that humor.

"Taika Waititi is such a spirited, hilarious individual, and he and Chris (Hemsworth) became very fast friends," Hiddleston told Fandango. "And what was great for me was to see their friendship kind of blossom and they brought out the best in each other and started making stuff up. I can confidently say this will be the funniest depiction of the character of Thor that you've ever seen. I personally have known for almost 10 years that Chris Hemsworth is hilarious. I think this go-round will be his chance."
