New Report Teases Gambit-Deadpool Marvel Crossover

A superhero label like Marvel rarely like to operate in isolation. While there is a push to give every movie a standalone quality, much like we have seen with the low budget horror installment The New Mutants in 2018, the franchise model still thrives when characters from different properties come together under one banner.

Having been a sticking point for Marvel going back almost a decade, the Channing Tatum blockbuster Gambit has provided fans with an official release date of February 14, 2019 from 20th Century Fox. But why stop there?

With ensemble titles like Avengers: Infinity War and Justice League set to soak up so much box office hype, there is the opportunity to bridge different Marvel features if the studio opts to do so. One new report from Omega Underground intimates that will be the case.

Externals Could Bring Gambit, Deadpool, New Mutants and X-Force Together

The Externals Marvel Comics

Marvel boss Kevin Feige has suggested that the Untitled Avengers movie for 2019 will likely close that chapter for the comic book label, leaving them to focus on other projects. With that being the case, the website reported on the inclusion of a group of supervillains for Gambit that leads itself to plenty of crossover material down the track.

Omega Underground gave a rundown of this group known as The Externals, a cohort who have history with Gambit, Deadpool, X-Force and The New Mutants.

"The Externals are a powerful sub-group of mutants able to recover from mortal wounds/death and that consider themselves immortal. Their members include Candra, Absalom, Burke, Crule, Gideon, Nicodemus, Saul, and Selene. Apocalypse is also possibly one as well but is never given membership. New Mutants team members Sunspot and Cannonball were also eyed for membership. Gambit has a direct connection with them as well leading an Age of Apocalypse version at one point in Gambit and The X-Ternals. Outside of Candra, another External character that is extremely striking is Gideon due to his connections to X-Force, New Mutants, Deadpool, and even Gambit. He's a crossover villain that would make a lot of sense getting an on-screen debut."

D2 Full of Juicy Easter Eggs: Reynolds

Taking to Instagram, Ryan Reynolds announced that his sequel Deadpool 2 is officially heading to post-production. Thanking all those stakeholders who have been involved, the star teased a series of Easter Eggs that will pop up in the picture ready for June 1 in 2018.

"That's a wrap on DEADPOOL 2: A SONG OF FIRE AND ICE! Thank you to our beloved Captain, Mr.&#[email protected] are too clumsy to properly acknowledge your giant heart and talent. I love my hometown of Vancouver and our obscenely gifted crew. From our PA's, (who are first in and last out) to our set decorators and prop department, riddling this film with Easter Eggs in almost every scene... Thank you. I already miss being on set. Which is why I've decided to continue shooting the film in my underwear from Josh Brolin's well appointed living room."
