Marvel Fan Theories Emerge Over Thanos’ Scars In Infinity War

For millions of viewers domestically and around the globe, Sunday night's Super Bowl action was an evening Philadelphia Eagles fans will never forget. Yet for general moviegoers and the box office audience at large, the commercials provided ample opportunity to dig into some brand new trailer content courtesy of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Red Sparrow, Skyscraper, A Quiet Place, The Cloverfield Paradox and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

For all that action packed in between a Justin Timberlake Pepsi Halftime Show, it would be the short 30-second Marvel spot for Avengers: Infinity War that managed to snare most of the headlines. Teasing more action to build on a trailer that has already surpassed viewing records, one character's look came in for some attention above all others - the three scars placed on the cheek of villain Thanos.

Cue the fan theories.

Thanos vs. Wolverine: Purely Fan Fiction?

Twitter was obviously abuzz with activity speculating over the potential origins of the claw marks strewn down the face of the antagonist - with the name of Wolverine being an obvious candidate given his choice of weaponry. It would be quite the stretch with a Disney-Fox deal just having taken place before the shoot for Avengers: Infinity War to have any tie in with the two properties, yet with one of the comics having seen the two characters face off and the potential for a hidden storyline to be re-examined in the future, perhaps there is more to this than many would think.

Throwing up the likelihood that these scars are indeed the work of someone within the MCU already such as Black Panther or Rocket Racoon, Marvel head Kevin Feige intimated that there will be no X-Men-Avengers crossover even considered prior to 2020. As far as he is concerned, their slate is locked in until that time.

"The truth of the matter as I understand it is the deal has to be figured out," he remarked. "There's been no communication. We're not thinking about it. We're focusing on everything we've already announced. If and when the deal actually happens, we'll start to think more about it. Until then, we have a lot to do. ... It would be years away. We've announced everything through 2019, so none of those would be adjusted."

Infinity War Fan Poster Teases Black Order Introduction

As MCU fans demand more trailer action for the upcoming blockbuster, Marvel have been savvy in keeping much of the scenes to themselves for the sake of spoiling the experience. This has been seen - or more to the point - not been seen, with Thanos' posse the Black Order.

Characters like Proxima Midnight and Ebony Maw have remained hidden away from public sight as the studio attempt to hold back the entourage of villains for the main show. Enter German magazine Panini Vorschau 78 who have offered their own take on who the Mad Titan will be teaming up with to take on the Avengers and claim the Infinity Gauntlet.
