The Logan Scene For Sabretooth That Never Was

Now that Logan has finally made it's way to theaters to raving reviews, the actors and filmmakers feel free to admit plans that may or may not have been in the pipeline during the production phase. Seeing Hugh Jackman's 17 year stint with the Marvel character come to a fitting close, it was floated that his old nemesis Sabretooth would take part for a small cameo.

The villain has been a mainstay in the X-Men world, having been a central antagonist for the 2000 feature courtesy of Tyler Mane. With a more maligned role in the subsequent sequels, the part was recast in the 2009 flop X-Men Origins: Wolverine to showcase Liev Schreiber as the clawed menace.

Logan Didn't Gamble on Sabretooth

Said to pop up in a gambling town, writer Scott Frank told Cinemablend that Sabretooth was a potential point of refuge for James Howlett, Charles Xavier and X-23. As the Reavers were on the hunt for the trio. The character's relationship with Wolverine begun as a strong bond until the duo veered off in very different directions, one embracing their animal instincts while Logan attempted to settle down and raise a family.

"There was a moment when we were thinking about, as I recall, Jim (Mangold) had an idea where when they were on the run, and they go to the gambling town, there may have been at that point they were going to see (Sabertooth) for help," remarked Frank. "He was going to be there for help. Now that you mention it! I wouldn't swear to it, but we thought that would have been an interesting thing to do. And then for whatever reason we didn't do it."

Schreiber Gives Thanks To Hugh For Being Part of His World

The portrayal of the superhero has not been forgotten by those that have enjoyed being part of the journey, as Liev Schreiber reached out to his old sparring partner on twitter to congratulate and thank the Australian.

"@RealHughJackman ... Thank you so much for showing me the ropes and inviting me to be part of it. Love you brother. x Liev #Logan."

The respect has clearly been mutual as there was talk around the Ray Donovan star reprising his role for Logan as he held discussions with Jackman behind the scenes to make it a reality. Unfortunately it did not come to pass but judging by their chemistry, there is every chance they could link up again for another project down the line.
