Kevin Smith Confirms New Title Arriving: Jay and Silent Bob Reboot

The View Askewniverse has not had a movie inclusion in a while, but Kevin Smith has set that right. With the comic book aficionado working on a variety of projects following the release of Clerks II in 2006, the quirky franchise has gone quiet.

Fast forward to this week, Smith has announced on social media that a title Jay and Silent Bob Reboot will begin production this fall. It will reunite the loveable losers Jay (Jason Mewes) with Silent Bob (Smith) as it will operate as a sequel to the 2001 comedy Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

16 Years in the Making For J & SB

Showcasing an old image of the pair standing in front of the Miramax sign some 16 years prior, Smith said that the cameras will begin rolling in a matter of months.

"16 years ago, #JayAndSilentBobStrikeBack was released in theaters. And this Fall, we shoot a follow-up flick called #JayAndSilentBobReboot!"

Using his podcast as a vehicle to expand on this surprising announcement, Smith outlined how his personal control of the property gave him the flexibility to venture forward with the feature. While Clerks III is all but dead at buried right now, nothing is stopping him from creating this installment.

"So I don't own Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy or Dogma, but I do own Jay and Silent Bob," he remarked. "So while I love playing with someone else's new toys on The Flash and Supergirl, I'm getting eager to play with my old toys again in the inter-connected View Askewniverse I spent the first half of my career creating. And so all last month, I had the time of my life laughing while writing Jay and Silent Bob Reboot - a fun flick in which the Jersey boys have to go back to Hollywood to stop a brand new reboot of the old Bluntman & Chronic movie they hated so much. It's a tongue-in-cheek, silly-ass satire that pokes fun at the movie business's recent re-do obsession, featuring an all-star cast of cameos and familiar faces! And I already met with the good folks at Miramax and they're into it, so I'm hoping we'll be shooting in the summer! Never give up, kids. You can do anything you want in life, so long as you're patient and malleable."

Kev Back In CW Fold With Supergirl Season 3

There is never a dull moment in the life of Kevin Smith. Before he gets underway with Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, the 47-year old will return to direct at least one episode on the third season of the CW series Supergirl.

The New Jersey native offered a snapshot on location in Vancouver, but details about the fifth episode in the series is unknown. Smith did helm last season's title 'Supergirl Lives' in season two which was written by Eric Carrasco and Cindy Lichtman.
