Josh Brolin Physically Prepared For a 2018 X-Force Shoot

As soon as Deadpool 2 became a wrap for production last week, all attention shifted to the mega release date on June 1, 2018. Yet before that red carpet is rolled out on the Marvel sequel next summer, chances are an X-Force title will already be underway in production.

As Josh Brolin recalled his brutal experience playing Cable with Collider, he teased how close the project was to getting started. His introduction into the series acted as a bridge to this spinoff territory and while he wasn't getting ahead of himself with expectations, he knows that this adventure as the time traveling antihero is just the beginning.

Deadpool 2 Box Office Will Judge Speed of X-Force Creation

While there are productions that get put on the back-burner due to scheduling conflicts and alterations with studio hierarchy, 20th Century Fox and Marvel are clearly want to strike while the iron is hot for this property. So much so that Brolin identified 2018 as a potential start date, opening the door for a 2019 X-Force premiere.

"I think (X-Force films) sometime next year or soon thereafter," he remarked. 'It depends. It all depends. It depends on how Deadpool 2 does, but I don't think that's a make or break kind of deal. Drew Goddard is already involved in it. He's into it now. I know he and Ryan (Reynolds) were meeting. I've met him once, and so this is all kind of going ahead. How it goes ahead, I know that they're preparing, and I know that it's something that I'm set to do."

42-year old Goddard has helped to write and executive produce two Marvel series in Daredevil and The Defenders, now he has been given the coveted X-Force director's chair. Once the filmmaker has wrapped his own feature, the movie is ready to begin.

"When it happens they're going to put it as fast as they can. I think Drew Goddard is doing his movie right now and then once he's kind of wrapped up with that and this movie comes out I think we'll be ready to start the other one."

Brolin is an actor who is accustomed to physicality having starred in such pictures as Sicario, No Country for Old Men and the upcoming smash hit Avengers: Infinity War. Yet the rigors that were involved to strip down, bulk up and be beat around for Deadpool 2 is a challenge that still leaves a sting.

"The tease is, a guy who's 49 years old on the cusp of 50 who got in the best shape of his life, especially exteriorly, and I was extremely disciplined throughout that whole thing. I got beat to s*** on that movie. That's all I know. I had stuntmen throwing me all over the place. I've got a shoulder issue, I've got a knee issue that I've got to deal with now, but we got through it. We got through it. I pushed hard and I suffered because of it."
