Deadpool Most Pirated Movie of 2016 As Reynolds Desires Wolverine Crossover

These days pirates don't dress up like Johnny Depp and travel around the Caribbean, they download movies (legally or otherwise). Or, as they would describe it - "file share." While not everyone can afford to spend money on their entertainment, the popular torrent sites were flush with content from one 2016 installment in particular - Deadpool.

The Ryan Reynolds Marvel hit became a stellar feature that brought together a comic book superhero with a raw, R-rated setting that combined to become an unparalleled smash with audiences around the world. And, like anything that garners that much love and success, the file sharers ensured that it would set records to be pirated more than any other film in the year that was 2016.

Downloaders Enjoy The Superhero Blockbusters

Captain America: Civil War Team

TorrentFreak explained that this revelation follows a general trend. Where goes the moviegoers at the cinemas, so goes the torrent downloads.

"While file-sharers may have a slight preference for geeky films, in general there's a high correlation between piracy and box-office sales," said the site.

The Top 10 list from BitTorrent was high on the geek scale. Seeing the biggest of budgets transferring to people's desktops, phones and tablets. Whether it was Marvel, DC or live action versions of a popular board game, there is a direct correlation between what makes a box office smash, and a box office smash and grab to take funds away from those that made the picture.

Reynolds Still Holds Out For A Deadpool-Wolverine Crossover

Logan & Deadpool

Taking to social media to quash the rumor linking Deadpool with a cameo in Logan, Reynolds did make it clear for the record that, "I want a Deadpool/Wolvie film." Obviously from the shorts and teasers dripped out from the Hugh Jackman flick to hit cinemas in March, the two simply don't mesh - at least for this round.

The Merc with the Mouth has carved a niche that is unique not only to Marvel, but the greater superhero universe as a whole. To create more buzz, Jackman and Reynolds clearly have a tremendous relationship and chemistry together. A combo that would be awesome to behold for a whole feature. It might end up being pie-in-the-sky material given that his next picture is closing a chapter, but we can dream. Prequel anyone?
