where the wild things AREN'They, this might be blasphemous but here's an animated sequel/parody of Maurice's classic...asking what if max's dad went to the land of the wild things...

are you going to teach your children to discriminate people based on their economic status too? doesn't matter how much you read to your kids if you teach them to talk to people the way you do.

Wild Thing, I Think I Love You...I usually have a problem, as it sounds like many of those who have posted here do also, with stories having a wee bit too much creative license taken with them. But this truly looks amazing. Totally impressed already with the young child actor... within just a few short moments in this trailer, he has already conveyed to me the beauty and innocence and frequent sadness that can accompany childhood. The emotion on his face, the sheer joy and delight as he romps in this world of his creation, was simply amazing. Spike Jonz, propers to you, you genius freak of nature. I can't wait to see this with my daughter.

IncredibleMy wife and I dont get to go to the theatre often, and the last time we did was for Harry Potter. when we were sitting there before the movie watching the trailers, offering brief commentary between previews, i saw this kid being carried by something.
then i saw the shadow with the horns, then i heard the song start playing.
rarely do movie trailer affect me, but this one did....
profoundly.
this was one of my fave books as a kid (also loved "My Side of the Mountain") that i read all the time.
in 2 minutes i went from anticipating Harry Potter to little boy, giddy at the thought of this movie.
I can see Spike Jonzr loves this story as much as i do and he'll do it justice.
by the way Jeff_in_LA my kids know its a book. because i read to them. something parents should do. sorry you were stunted by illiterate parents.
everytime i read this to my sons it takes about 5 minutes to look at everything on each page. we rarely finish it in less than an hour. maybe if you had some imagination you could see how a 48 page book with 10 minutes of text could translate to a feature film. thats why Spike Jonze is a director and youre a barrista.

soundrack!yes the movie looks great, but let's take a moment to appreciate the music.
I heard that most of the soundtrack would be Karen O, the woman from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. such a cool chick. It looks like there's also going to be some Arcade Fire too, which is sick. I'm psyched to see who else will be on the soundtrack.
By the way, the song in the trailer was "Wake Up" by The Arcade Fire.

children.. dont grow upI loved this book when i was a kid, in fact this is one of the only positive memories i have of that age. The trailer gave me goose bumps and i got a tear like so many of the other posts have said. I think this is going to be amazing, i was so nervous that it would be another average adaptation that would ruin it for me but i have hope!!
"If the children don't grow up, our bodies get bigger but our hearts get torn up.
We're just a million little gods causin' rain storms turnin' every good thing to rust"

The scene where his mom kisses the guy, you can see the fear in his face.. 10/10 on the editor for this trailer

The EmotionIm really amazed over this trailer, it really looks wimzikal, obscure, cute and psicodelic as the book was, being a mexican living in tijuana near sandiego and chulavista these books where some of the first books ive enjoyed and this particular book was the first book i really understood in its language, the music and the images really got to me, im just really excited over this movie and hope that anyone who really doubts the greatness and meaning of a movie, as an art expresion and a way to entertain the masses with new stories, new points of view, new methods to creating this, and all of this to the price of an admission, whatever your point of view over a film experienceis your opinion. kudos to all of you who really got to grow up to this book and see to once more get to relive the expirience of such a wonderous experience

Where the Wild Things AreI think I read the book(s) when I was realt little. I remember bits from the old cartoon video, but not much. Either way, this looks good!
by acfay24 | March 26, 2009, 6:02PM
BookThe book is 48 pages with only a few sentences per page. I think you will be able to finish it before the movie comes out.

Where the WILD THINGS AREYa know, Im 23 and i know of the child books. Never got the opurtunity to read them. Now watching this, I really want to read them before this comes out. This looks amazing.

GGGRRRThis looks amazing. It doesn't appear to take away from the imagination the book let us have.
by Jeff_In_LA | March 26, 2009, 10:16AM
Where the Wild Things AreI'm guessing that some of the people commenting here are under 35, maybe under 30, maybe under 25... Seeing characters like these happened all the time in the "old days" (late 60's to early 80's).. HR Puff N' Stuff (and LidsVille), Mummenshanz, ever seen SnuffleUpaGus? Land of the Lost, The Lost Saucer (my favorite!!).. Look up "The World of Sid & Marty Kroft" on Amazon... I can't believe a copy of The Lost Saucer (Used) on Amazon goes for up to $150.00!!!
by Jeff_In_LA | March 26, 2009, 9:57AM
Where the Wild Things AreThis doesn't look bad, but doesn't look great. I see them wanting to match the frames almost exactly as we would remember the art from the book (as was done with James and the Giant Peach), BUT, that's where it stops for me.. I will still see it with an open mind, BUT, stories that are classics (or original films that were classics, like Willy Wonka), sometimes should be LEFT ALONE. Why? Because if the book reads in 10 minutes (like Oh, The Places You'll Go), then it requires 90 minutes of "creative license", and therefore can attempt to "bend" the interpretation to become what this (and possibly next) generation will "see as the story", WITHOUT reading the book first, or even being told that it even WAS a book first, and NEVER LOOKING BACK. That's what I get afraid of in these situations.. It reminds me of Johnny Depp doing "Charlie & The Chocolate Factory", doesn't beat the original so: Leave it Alone! Madonna doing American Pie: Leave it Alone. Gwen Stefani doing "It's My Life" - LEAVE IT ALONE.. I WILL see Where the Wild Things Are, but still cautious. I do like the idea though, of doing a flick for kids that isn't loaded with CG, they can't learn about humans (and how to be one), if they don't see any.
by slappyhappy | March 26, 2009, 8:03AM
trailerVery interesting! Like the fact that they have resisted cgi! Looks awesome and fun!

Completely sold me...I was hesitant when I first heard they were making a movie about one of my favorite books as a child, but now I can see that they are doing a wonderful job. This movie looks absolutely beautiful. I can not wait to see the final product.
by rubix | March 25, 2009, 11:59PM
agreedI think this looks like a great adaptation of the book. I love how it will have a serious tone over all the fantasy, which is what I got from the book when looking at it from an adult's perspective.
by StPatty33 | March 25, 2009, 10:49PM
WTWTAThe people that are making negative comments about the movie are the same unimaginative, shallow people that wouldn't have enjoyed the book either. Movies are works of art and it's apparent you simply don't understand that. Maybe we should throw more explosions and boobies in, then you'd watch it?
This trailer feels exactly like the book--magical with a hint of dark, and very much following the same awesome illustrative styling. This is literally the most impressed I've ever been with a trailer. October seems so far away now!

squeeeeeeeeee!Yay! I've been so nervous about the release of this movie after hearing all of the drama that has ensued while making it, but this preview looks fantastic. Magic & joy & a little dark & everything that made the book a favorite of children all over the world. Can't wait!

by ohabbeyroad | March 25, 2009, 6:17PM
Where the wild things areI think it looks kinda dumb. The book was alright, but the monsters look like hairy teletubbies. It did absolutely nothing for me. Every book ever created doesn't need to be adapted to the big screen.
by rubix | March 25, 2009, 6:16PM
NehA. Nonymous, what non-lame adults do you expect to boycott this movie? I remeber reading this when I was a kid and I know parents today who still read this to their kids. Learn something about the content before you make a judgement on how people will receive it based on your own lack of knowledge.
