Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger TidesThe third time (At World's End) isn’t always the charm... Sometimes you have to venture out a little further, in order to find redemption. And so it is with Rob Marshall’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth (and counting) installment in Disney’s highly-successful film series. This latest Pirates avoids many of its previous mistakes, and while still too long, the film clearly benefits from a fresh (Marshall) perspective.

Johnny DeppI'm just an over-all fan of Johnny Depp... haven't seen The Tourist yet and it recieved some bad reviews but Johnny is still an amazing actor. Characters that are out of the ordinary like Jack Sparrow is where Depp really shines.

Jack is back!Love my Capt. Jack--can't wait! I've read the book this is based on & it's a great read. It will be interesting to see the bits that make it into the film. Jack was never really "loopy"--that's part of his "display" to the world so that no one takes him seriously. However, if you've seen all 3 films, Jack does have a serious side to himself as well. This looks to be a combination of the too which should be fun. Drinks all around!

disappointed a bitI have always loved these movies, and when I saw that they were making this one 3D I was super excited, then I saw that Ian McShane was in it, who I think is a genius (has anyone watched Deadwood?) With that being said, after watching the trailer I'm disappointed. Is it just me or does Jack Sparrow seem not himself, the likable thing about him was that he always appeared so well "loopy" he seems too lucid not to mention smiley, he's never really been a smiler more of a smirker, I dunno, maybe I love them so much that I'm over analyzing it.

Johnny, please have a bottle of rum with Tim BurtoYes, Johnny Depp is a great actor....that being said....the innovation bonus of the beginning is gone and they pretty much exploited the modern pirate genre to an critical extend. Honestly, I can t help but feeling mixed emotions watching this trailer. I m hoping for another Burton / Depp project because lets face it....they are a winning team.

nuh uhI am not a big fan of this idea. Jack Sparrow is a great character, but this series is such a one-trick pony that it seems a bit much to hope for that they could wring a good movie after two poor sequels. And Rob Marshall has no business directing a pirate movie.

where are they? This looks like a great movie, but wheres keira knightly and orlando bloom?

My Hero!"I love how people love to bash these movies as if they are somehow 'above' them and yet they'll be the ones lining up opening night. Don't be ashamed, people...sometimes great movies don't actually have to be intelectually stimulating. It's not pretending to be something it's not. At the end of the day, it's a Walt Disney film. When it's over, you'll have a smile on your face. Then you'll go home and blog about how terrible it was (while humming the them song)."
Here Here!! Finally the voice of reason!! VERY well said!

What a Trailer!I'm sure that after this spectacular trailer, I won't really need to watch the full thing, as it showed what is probably just about every key moment of the movie.

Why these 2?I'm so tired of Penelope Cruz ruining otentially good films. Why is a Broadway Musical director (Rob Marshall) in charge of a pirate film? ... There are better choices out there that would have served the film much better..
The big bonus is Ian McShane as Blackbeard, I think the idea of zombies and mermaids is good too.
The first trilogy was as much a love story as it was about Captain Jack.Sparrow. With that chapter closed a new chapter is opened and hopefully this one will focus more on Blackbeard.

never Saw 3Well, I guess I might have to rent the third one. I never watched it after the atrocity that was the 2nd one. This does look entertaining.
by KaGe | December 14, 2010, 12:25AM
whew!alright I'm back in, if only to see Peneolope Cruz speak more spanish...and the movie looks better than the last two. I guess it has that going for it too.

nioceit seems that jack doesn't seem as .........quirky...as his previous endevours. Ill see it i know but....wtf on the plot :[

TypicalThis is going to be such crap, but I can't wait. The Pirates movies are some of the movies that I know are terrible, but I just can't help but love them anyway. Besides, this has Jack and Barbossa and it doesn't have Will or Elizabeth. Definitely a plus.
by Human Duracell | December 13, 2010, 3:25PM
MehHhhhhhhhhhh, I'll probably end up seeing this honestly. Disney's production values are hard to match, so I know it will at least be entertaining to the eye.

We'll See!Well it definitely looks like more of a return to form from that last piece of crap they gave us, Well it definitely looks like more of a return to form from that last piece of crap they gave us, but I wonder if audiences are growing tired this franchise. Especially since there talking 2 more films after this one.
I certainly know I’m growing tired of the Jack Sparrow (Sorry "Captain" Jack Sparrow) character, as much as I have always enjoyed Johnny Depp as an actor!
