Among toughened criminals on the gang-run blocks of New Bilibid Prison, a maximum security facility in Muntinlupa City, Philippines, we meet a community of inmates taking part in an extraordinary project. Fashion designer Puey Quinones visits Bilibid once a week to teach 30 participants how to sew, work with fabrics and see their ideas go from sketch to finished product. Director CK Mak introduces us to their individual stories and hardships, intertwining them with Quinones’ own personal and professional past. We encounter complex relationships and challenges within the community, and between the inmates and their families in the outside world. With an upbeat style, Mak takes us through the process of staging a fashion show from start to finish, following weeks of hard work and critique. The teams’ efforts culminate in a competitive sartorial showdown judged by top professionals from the Philippine fashion industry.
