In the mid-1990s, life for Italian engineer Vito Alfieri Fontana seemed set. Already part owner of his father's respected electrical manufacturer, Tecnovar, he would one day inherit full control and ensure the company's continued success for his own son. But a deep existential crisis upends Fontana's professional commitment, as well as his connection to his father and family. Since the 70s, Tecnovar had been the leading Italian producer of antipersonnel and antitank explosives. Following his father's example, Fontana never questioned where his products ended up. But as demand for mines escalated in tandem with the brutal conflict in Yugoslavia, realization hit him hard. Superbly composed images capture Fontana's gripping voyage to the sites in Bosnia and Herzegovina where his work caused unfathomable destruction.
