Roulette (2006) Foreign Trailer
Foreign trailer for Roulette.
The glittering youth of Max, from a wealthy family in the lakeside resort of Lugano, has apparently just been saved from a self-destructive gambling phase. A chance encounter brings him together with Ilir, a young asylum seeker from Albania with a past marked by a father who was in the country’s secret services during the communist dictatorship.
Max and Ilir form a curious friendship which becomes intertwined with their love interests: Ilir’s girlfriend Blanca, from Colombia, scarred by the tragic consequences of corruption and civil war in her home country; Alex, a girl with a solid family background but torn by her devotion to Max. Compounded by his own inability to react, the classic problems of a stereotypical middle class family lead Max towards a dark tunnel without an exit. Alex tries desperately to keep him out of it, but his self-destructive instincts are stronger than love. They split up.
Meanwhile Ilir, as well as having to face up to the problems of social integration, is wracked by difficulties in his relationship with Blanca. Both are tormented by events from a past still very much alive in the present, terrible memories that neither can bear, to the point where they do not want the child in Blanca’s womb to live. In this maze of family tragedies past and present, the friendship between Max and Ilir still thrives, allowing them to share moments of happiness. But it is not enough to prevent Max from falling into a downward spiral that will cost him his life.
