Puerto Ricans in Paris Trailer (2015)
Trailer for Puerto Ricans in Paris, starring Luis Guzman, Edgar Garcia, Rosie Perez and Alice Taglioni.
NYPD detectives Luis(Guzmán) and Eddie (Garcia) visit Paris to help a gorgeous French designer Colette (Taglioni) catch the black market thief who’s ripped off her new handbag design. While Luis’ girlfriend VANESSA (Rosario Dawson) and Eddie’s wife Gloria (Perez) remain in New York, the hopelessly unhip odd couple stumble through a glamorous high-fashion world brimming with charming cafes, wild nightclubs and corporate treachery.
Puerto Ricans in Paris premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival to tepid reviews, which can't seem to get over the fact that the film targets an "urban" audience while showcasing a French cast who domestic audiences might not be all to familiar with.
The mixed reviews didn't seem to hurt it all that much, as Focus World picked up the comedy for theatrical distribution a few months after the festival. Director Ian Edelman describes the project as, "fast and fun, centered around characters audiences could relate to and root for."
I do appreciate that Focus World wasn't afraid to shy away from the Voice of God in terms of opening up the trailer -- "In a world...", classic throwback -- but glad they didn't try to use the voice during the entire Puerto Ricans in Paris trailer.
Though I've never heard of the film until the release of the trailer, I have to admit that Puerto Ricans in Paris at least looks worthy of a VOD viewing. Maybe it's because I have a can't help but smile when Luis Guzman is on screen, or the fact that the whole buddy-cop genre very rarely turns out terrible. Actually, wait, I forgot about Cop Out. That was terrible.
