The Dark Tower Releases New Poster With Idris Elba Upside Down

Coming in at number 16 on our official list of 17 Action Movies You Must Watch In 2017, The Dark Tower is geared to be a fascinating, unique offering to the genre this year. Ahead of it's official opening in theaters across the United States on July 28, it's lead star Idris Elba published a new poster for the title on social media where he and his fellow companion Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor) are upside down.

The adaptation from the Stephen King novel is sure to be anything but one dimensional. Including some elements of horror and science-fiction for good measure. With Matthew McConaughey playing the antagonist of the piece in Walter Padick - a sorcerer who is out to find the tower and rule over it's kingdoms - the stage is set for an epic showdown as the Interstellar and Dallas Buyers Club star explores his dark side.

TV Spinoff To Reprise Idris On Small Screen

As Entertainment Weekly revealed last year, The Dark Tower won't only be limited to the motion picture. As a television series is already in the works. This was always intended to be the idea from day one, as MRC and Sony Pictures are looking to reprise Elba's Roland Deschain character in greater detail for a 10-13 pilot season run.

Screenwriter Akiva Goldsman is attached to the franchise with the plan to have the episodes airing by the time the movie is available to be shown on cable or streamed. However, as of yet there is no distributor for the series. Therefore the team continue to hunt around for a provider like Netflix or Amazon to showcase the run that will also feature the youngster Tom Taylor.

Seeing a weary old traveler mentor a gifted child through some treacherous territory - where have we heard that before?

The official film synopsis provides a clearer understanding of the story at hand. All while Elba attempts to solidify himself as a mainstay Hollywood lead in a big production.

"Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor) is a young 11-year-old adventure seeker who discovers clues about another dimension called Mid-World. Upon following the mystery, he is spirited away to Mid-World where he encounters the lone frontiersman knight Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), who is on a quest to reach the ‘Dark Tower’ that resides in End-World and reach the nexus point between time and space that he hopes will save Mid-World from extinction. But with various monsters and a vicious sorcerer named Walter Padick (Matthew McConaughey) hot on their trail, the unlikely duo find that their quest may be difficult to complete."
