if you think a term is derogatory or insulting, start using it with pride, wear it like a badge of honor.
only then will it lose it's negative connotations.

I am a retard. I am not offended by the term. Maybe it is because I don't operate at the same level as people who are superficial and need to take-up un-necessary confrontations to feel some sort of redemption. They are hollow; they make me sad. The "R" word is as bad as the "N" word. It is a hate word! It has been linked to hate crimes!

I am a fan of comedy but shame on you Ben Stiller. "Rainman" had value by exposing many to the issues of autism. "Forest Gump" demonstrated a persons abilities and possibilities of a person who just may have a disability. Just because you are playing a comedic role should not give you license to step so far over the line to perpetuate the myths of people with mental retardation.
