Trailer for The Quiet Zone.
The ongoing proliferation of electronic devices is creating a vast net of invisible noise that’s hard to escape. For those who suffer the headaches, confusion and muscle soreness associated with extreme forms of electrical sensitivity, there aren’t many places to seek refuge. In a remote part of West Virginia, the so-called National Radio Quiet Zone, home to the largest steerable radio telescope, offers one such escape. Calling themselves the canaries in the coal mine, the residents of this community spend their time reading, cooking and line-dancing instead of surfing the Internet or shopping online. Using an experimental visual approach and a beautiful Philip Glass–inspired soundscape, the filmmakers present a measured portrait of a place and its people that fits the rhythm of this isolated community.
