Though Guillermo Del Toro is not directing the sequel, he is most definitely involved. The man behind the franchise stayed on to write and produce. In his place is Steven S. Deknight, who will be making his feature directorial debut. While it does sound troubling, the director has plenty of experience behind the camera on TV shows.
Though I openly acknowledge that the first Pacific Rim was somewhat of a disappointment -- my expectations were way, way too high -- I have to admit that there is something insanely cool about this first er, "teaser" trailer for the film. The cast looks upgraded, and the cool factor has definitely been amped up. While there is no real footage just yet, we're off to a helluva start.
