It has been ten years since the Battle of the Breach and the oceans are still, but restless. Vindicated by the victory at the Breach, the Jaeger program has evolved into the most powerful global defense force in human history. The PPDC now calls upon the best and brightest to rise up and become the next generation of heroes when the Kaiju threat returns. Thrust into this is ex-Jaeger pilot Jake Pentecost, son of the late Stacker Pentecost, who is given a chance by his adopted sister, Mako Mori, to unite with the world and fellow Jaeger pilots to prevent humanity's extinction.
Pacific Rim Uprising as seen many scheduling changes with its release date. It is scheduled to be released on March 23, 2018. Originally it was scheduled for release on April 7, 2017. The film was then pushed back from its original release date of April 7, 2017 to August 4, 2017, then from August 4, 2017 to February 23, 2018, and then it was delayed one final time from February 23, 2018 to March 23, 2018.
The film also some major changes with its Director and Writer. Originally Guillermo del Toro was set to Direct the sequel but in February 2016, the studio and del Toro himself announced that Steven S. DeKnight would take over directing duties with a new script written by Jon Spaihts marking DeKnight's feature directorial debut, while Del Toro would remain on the project as a producer. Then, in May of 2016 Derek Connolly was brought in to do yet another rewrite of the script.
What can you say about this trailer except it is exactly what you want to see. There is tons of action, we get to see all of the Jaegers along with some of the Kaiju, and it introduces to all of the various characters.
This film looks to take the action from the first film and step it up even further...which can be both bad and good. It looks more like a transformers movie with all of the city scenes and destruction. My one major concern is with the script. It has had several re-writes and they better get an ending that both makes sense and kicks ass. Hopefully this film does not diverge too farm from Del Toro's original vision.
