Couple in a Hole Trailer (2016)

Trailer for Couple in a Hole, starring Paul Higgins and Kate Dickie.

After their isolated house is destroyed by a wildfire, John (Paul Higgins) and Karen (Kate Dickie) take refuge in the nearby forest and eke out a feral existence, staying away from the villagers in the valley below. As the couple’s backstory unfolds, the reasons for their self-imposed isolation and their deep grief become apparent. When an overly concerned local farmer Andre (Jerome Kircher) tries to help them, the couple’s relationship becomes ever more fragile and unstable leading to a violent and emotional climax.

It turns out that shooting in the forest can be dangerous. The star of Couple in a Hole, Paul Higgins, suffered an ankle injury so bad that the production had to be delayed for four weeks in order to allow him to recover. What happened? Well, as you can see in the trailer, there are a few sequences requiring Higgins to run through the bushes. During one of these runs he twisted his ankle... badly.

If you are wondering why you recognize Kate Dickie, the actress had a recurring role on the earlier seasons of Game of Thrones. In short--She was the one with her breasts always out for easy er, suckling.

The Couple in a Hole trailer looks half-nuts. Kicking things off with John (Higgins) trying to chase down a bunny, the film seems to take The Thin Red Line approach of showing both the beauty and dangers of living out in the wilderness. I'm not much of a camper, so completely understand the dangerous angle.

Not exactly sure what causes Karen (Dickie) to lose her mind [and her shirt] by the end of the trailer -- this is obviously a heavy plot point -- but the film does at least capture our curiosity on what could be going on here and why any couple would seek out the feral lifestyle.

Should make for a great viewing on VOD.
