Kim Barker, the author of The Taliban Shuffle, the book in which Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is based, did an interview on NPR radio. In the interview, she stated that Tina Fey became interested in the project because a New York Times review of the book described Barker as a Tina Fey-like character. Margot Robbie is an Australian actor playing a British character, Martin Freeman is a British actor playing a Scottish character and Stephen Peacocke is an Australian actor who plays a character who is supposed to be from New Zealand.

Tina Fey set up a scholarship in honor of her late father who died while she was filming Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. The Scholarship is for Veterans who want to study Journalism.

Screenwriter Robert Carlock adapted the book. He has worked with Tina Fey before as he was a writer for Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Maybe it is my undying love of Tina Fey, but I am excited and on board 100% with Whisky Tango Foxtrot. Even the name, WTF, is perfect. Tina uses her naturally hilarious and charming self to play a journalist is selected to go to Afghanistan because she is one of the few who do not have a family to worry about.

There is definitely a lot of Liz Lemon in her character which is a great thing. She goes over there, becomes friends with some military members and the stunningly beautiful Margot Robbie. Robbie saying Tina is a New York 6 or 7 but an Afghanistan 9 bordering on a 10 which was amusing. Martin Freeman plays Tina Fey’s love interest which is such a good choice. His adorableness is a bit underrated and the two of them seem like they would make an ideal couple. The final moments of the trailer show Fey’s character reporting on the city’s first female licensed driver backing into something which leads to Fey saying “That sucks, that sucks for women”, which made me laugh out loud because only Tina Fey could give such a line so hilariously.

The trailer for Whisky Tango Foxtrot is filled with an equal mix of humor, excitement and a genuinely interesting plot.
