While Polyphemus was intended to be a bellowing fearsome cyclops, Tyson needed to be a cyclops who was a "fun, cool guy". Easy to say, but what exactly does that look like? That's when the design team at ADI started creating concepts. Whether drawings, clay maquettes, photoshop art, it doesn't matter--it's all just to explore character possibilities. Once actor Douglas Smith was cast things started to focus. Ultimately, the studio mandate was to preserve as much of Douglas as possible. Here are the highlights of the process.
