Trailer for Mother's Day, the latest holiday ensemble from Garry Marshall.

Bringing together Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson and Julia Roberts along with Jason Sudeikis, it's a celebration of mothers everywhere. This big-hearted comedy invites us all to enjoy the laughter, tears and love as three generations come together in the week leading up to Mother's Day.

If you didn't recognize the formula or our condescending tone, Mother's Day is the 3rd ensemble holiday movie from director Garry Marshall, with the other two being Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve.

As mentioned in the trailer, this is Gary Marshall's fourth collaboration with Julia Roberts, who also starred in Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride. And, speaking of repeat collaborations, Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis can't do a movie without the other it seems. Each having recurring roles in the Horrible Bosses franchise, the duo also fell in love in We're the Millers.

Personally--Not a fan of this "holiday ensemble formula" that Garry Marshall has discovered. By allowing for such an ensemble cast and parallel stories, Mother's Day will likely take advantage of about half a dozen weak stories in order to make one greater story. It's neat, at best, but something I'd prefer my girlfriend and her friends to go see. In short, leave me out.

And with guys like me remaining home, these films have done just fine; hence why Marshall keeps making more of them. Valentine's Day had a budget of $52 million and did terrible with the critics. When it came to the box office, however, the film succeeded (greatly) with a haul of $216.4 million. And the same held true for New Year's Eve. The film used the same budget, $56 million, to pay for the ensemble cast, and again did terrible with the critics. But that didn't stop its box office take of $142 million.

Based on these statistics, we can almost guarantee that Mother's Day will be the same garbage, but still do just fine at the box office. #sigh
