Wes Ball returns to direct Maze Runner: The Death Cure, the third film in the Maze Runner franchise. And this will be just the third film Ball has directed...his only other experience at the the helm was for three short films before landing the gig for The Maze Runner.
The first two films, The Maze Runner and The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials are almost exactly a year to the day apart from their release date. There is a much larger gap between this film and the second one, 2 years and 4 months to be exact.
This trailer plays more like a teaser, focusing on the franchise through the first and giving us quick snippets building up to the title reveal. We then get to see what looks like footage mostly from the very beginning of the film and we are introduced to the backstory of how they must break into the legendary Last City, a WCKD-controlled labyrinth that may turn out to be the deadliest maze we have ever seen.
The Maze Runner franchise has a loyal following and either you love the films or you are like me and they are...meh. I did enjoy the concept of the first film but it did not blow me away enough to make we really want to see the second. And, now we have a third film that while the teaser makes it looks pretty good, I will likely wait for On Demand for this one...but I will wait until we get a full trailer to make my final decision.
