X-Men: Days of Future Past Feature Trailer (2014)

Feature trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Bonded by war. United by hope. See the X-Men face their greatest challenge together in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

According to Peter Dinklage, director Bryan Singer chose him to portray Bolivar Trask because of his height, saying, "With my dwarfism, I'm a bit of a mutant. I can't move metal or anything, but I thought of it as self-loathing. Deep down, Trask is quite sensitive about that aspect of himself."

Hugh Jackman’s appearance as Wolverine marks the seventh time the actor has played the character, having had an appearance in every X-Men film. This also increases the record Jackman already owned for the most times a comic character has been played the same actor.

The Days of Future Past storyline was chosen by the filmmakers since it would allow them to resolve any continuity problems that has arisen over the course of the various films in the X-Men franchise. The time travel aspect also allowed actors from both the original trilogy and the newer films, like X-Men: First Class, to appear alongside each other.

X-Men: Days of Future Past Feature Trailer Screencap

The trailer opens on a pretty desolate looking Xavier’s School For Gifted Youngsters, one in much disrepair. The inhabitants aren’t doing much better with a Professor X that looks like a bum and probably reeks of alcohol. Then Wolverine comes along to make things interesting. He’s come from the future and has grave news: Sentinels have decimated not just the mutants, but the world at large. It’s up to the X-Men, past and future, to keep this terrible future from happening.

Any fan of the X-Men comics knows the name Days of Future Past and the rough storyline. Though it looks like the film is taking the general premise, it seems to be deviating in some big ways. Wolverine, rather than Kitty Pryde, is going back in time, being the major way. The trailer also shows some new X-Men, like Bishop and Blink, that weren’t involved with the Days of Future Past storyline, but have played big roles in other X-Men stories.

Days of Future Past may not end up being a 100% faithful adaptation, it does look like it’ll be another solid entry into the series that has recovered pretty well since the days of Last Stand. The ability of the movie to reset the whole timeline because of the time travel is just an added bonus.
