War Machine Trailer (2017)

An absurdist war story for our times, writer-director David Michôd (Animal Kingdom) recreates a U.S. General's roller-coaster rise and fall as part reality, part savage parody - raising the specter of just where the line between them lies today. His is an exploration of a born leader's ultra-confident march right into the dark heart of folly. At the story's core is Brad Pitt's sly take on a successful, charismatic four-star general who leapt in like a rock star to command NATO forces in Afghanistan, only to be taken down by a journalist's no-holds-barred exposé.

The Netflix original film is inspired by the book The Operators: The Wild & Terrifying Inside Story of America's War in Afghanistan by the late journalist Michael Hastings. The book details Hastings' travels with General Stanley McChrystal and his team in April 2010. It included extensive quotations from over 20 hours of audio recordings of McChrystal and his inner circle.

War Machine will mark Director David Michôd's third time at the helm of a feature film. The other two films were The Rover and Animal Kingdom. He was also a Writer on all three of these projects. There is one feature film that he wrote but was not the Director...Hesher starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Natalie Portman, Rainn Wilson, Devin Brochu & Piper Laurie.

Netflix sure is making a name for itself in the film world. Most people think of Netflix and its streaming of TV Shows and older movies that previously came out in theaters. But lately, Netflix has been putting out new feature films that will be released solely on its streaming network. And the best part is all of these films are unique.

War Machine Trailer Screen Shot 2
This is the fifth new film for Netflix that we have debuted a trailer for just this month! We have had Okja Teaser Trailer, Bright Teaser Trailer, Burning Sands Trailer, The Discovery Trailer and Sandy Wexler Trailer.

Not too much is given away in this trailer for War Machine, which can be a good thing. But we do get a glimpse and a taste for Brad Pitt as Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, which is quite different than Pitt's other war related roles...well, Lt. Aldo Raine was definitely quirky and had a dark humor like McChrystal. It is still hard to say how good this film looks with this brief look. The cast looks great and it has a compelling unique story...this trailer definitely has got me interested in this film.
