Teaser Trailer for Luc Besson's Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

Rooted in the classic graphic novel series, Valerian and Laureline- visionary writer/director Luc Besson advances this iconic source material into a contemporary, unique and epic science fiction saga.

Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe.

Under directive from their Commander (Clive Owen), Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the universe. Alpha’s seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time- uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger.

Director Luc Besson has Directed many films including:

The film is based on "Valérian and Laureline", a French science fiction comics series, created by writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézières. The series focuses on the adventures of the Valérian, a spatio-temporal agent, and his female partner, Laureline, as they travel the universe through space and time. Valérian is a classical hero, kind-hearted, strong and brave who follows the orders of his superiors even if he feels, deep down, that it is the wrong thing to do. On the other hand, his partner Laureline combines her superior intelligence, determination and independence with sex-appeal.

In case you were wondering what time period is featured in the film, the original setting for the series was the 28th century, the year 2720.

Well, this film came out of nowhere. It was not on my radar. I loved Luc Besson's The Fifth Element and Lucy. Based simply on that reason, this film now has my attention. Luc has had much more success as a Writer, but I am glad he stepping back into the Director's chair a hopefully can deliver another great sci-fi hit.

This definitely is just a tease and I am okay with that. I must admit early on the trailer I was a little disappointed with the CG for the aliens and felt that this film was going to be a low budget bust. But as the teaser went on I began to be impressed with the visuals of the massive city. All in all, I think this teaser trailer does a good job at giving us just a taste of what is yet to come.
