I actually watched the movie before commentingPlease watch this movie. Everyone.
If you were a JW and went through a hard time (disfellowshipped or similar) then this movie may really touch you and help you feel understood.
If you need to explain to someone else what it's like to be a JW and all the crazy games everyone plays in the cult, then this movie is almost certainly perfect to do so.
If you want to understand that JW's are not just some nutcases that come knock on your door and are actually humans that are caught up in a difficult life of soul-crushing conformity and mind-control, some of which is not really their fault (like if they are/were raised as a child in it and got wired that way), then this movie may really help you understand them and cut them some slack. It can be completely overwhelming to be a JW sometimes as perfection is expected/demanded and humans are not perfect.
For the record, and just so you really understand the seriousness of this after you watch it, this movie is roughly 95% accurate overall. Very very accurate in essentially all of the major and subtle details and lines. As far as I'm concerned, it really captured many of the truly important aspects of the life. Anyone who says so is just plain wrong, or lived in a congregation that somehow got away with operating out of the national/international conformity. Yes, I was a JW, for 25 years. I just watched it with a group of exJW's, all of whom were very serious themselves at one time for many years/decades before leaving. They all felt it was very accurate as well.
Besides, the acting was truly superb by everyone in the movie, as well as any other aspects of a movie that you expect. I am very grateful for the time and effort they put to get it all right, instead of just close enough while trying to make a $.
Please watch this movie.

thought provokingI just finished watching this movie, it was poignant and very thought provoking. I love the way it shows both sides of the story, but makes it obvious that the JWs are very narrow minded and have been brainwashed since their childhood. When a parent chooses their "eternal life" over the welfare and happiness of their own children, it's clearly the "selfish" choice, as stated by the main character of this movie.

raised in a jw familythis movie brought back some childhood memories... not all of them bad. If the movie is an accurate portrayal I would love for my non JW friends to see it. It may help themto understand the "JW experience."

Former JWYes, I'm out here and I found this movie that brings back some disturbing memories of being a Jehovah's Witness for nearly 25 years. I don't know how much truth is in the movie, but I see a lot of familiar things in the trailer. This movie should be advertised on television for people to find it and watch it. Then those who are on the fence about being a JW can make a better decision.
