The Conspirator is a period drama based on true events following the assassination of President Lincoln. Wright Penn will play Mary Surratt, the only woman among a group charged with conspiring to kill the president. McAvoy will play Frederick Aiken, an idealistic young war hero who reluctantly defends Surratt and in the process comes to believe she is innocent.

The Conspirator

You never know what’s in store on any given Friday (or whatever day you pick for movie night.) As a fan of presidential history and Robert Redford, I settled into The Conspirator with high expectations. An hour later, there I was... slipping out of the theater, leaving behind a tedious off-Broadway play disguised as a Hollywood motion picture.

history

yes, as a history major in college, i already knew this story and the outcome of the trial. but i agree that this will be a movie worth seeing, just as i thought 'gettysburg' was. allthough hollywood usually deviates from facts here and there, movies strongly based in historical fact are valuable and i for one will see this one.
