17 Again Trailer (2009)

Zac Efron and Matthew Perry star in the age-defying comedy 17 Again, in which a magical transformation finds Mike reliving his past in the present day as a 17-year-old in the same high school he attended 20 years ago. But this time around, his own teenage kids are his peers and his wife is the unsuspecting object of his affection. Can this knowledge help him navigate teen angst while at the same time validate the life choices he has made? Zac Efron stars as the 17-year old Mike and Matthew Perry co-stars as Mike's former self - the 36-year-old husband and father of two.

Zac Efron had stomach ache toward the end of filming. When it worsened, he went to get it checked out and discovered he had appendicitis. He ended up having emergency surgery.

17 Again has a scene that is an homage to Back to the Future; when Mike wakes up and begins describing a dream where he was back in high school, he discovers his daughter, Maggie, caring for him. In Back to the Future, Marty McFly wakes from a dream and finds his teenage mom caring for him.

Zac Efron plays the 17 year old version of Mike. Michelle Trachtenberg plays his daughter, Maggie, though she is actually 2 years older than Efron.

After Mike holds a party, Ned slaps him three times. In the movie, it is easy to see Efron's face getting more and more red after each slap. Ouch!

17 Again Trailer Screencap

Think Big, mixed with Back to the Futureand 13 Going on 30, and you have the basic premise for 17 Again. Matthew Perry plays the 37 year old Mike, a married father who wishes life hadn't passed him by. He gets the chance to alter the course of history though, when he wakes up and finds he's the 17 year old version of himself, and now looking curiously like Zac Efron.

With the help of his friend, Ned (Thomas Lennon), Mike returns to high school, gets to know his daughter a little better, and comes to understand that life is what you make it.

I think this trailer does a pretty good job of enticing people to watch the movie. Not everyone loves these time-hop films but I certainly do and honestly? I still maintain that this is Efron's best role to date. He really worked hard on getting his character for this and it shows. Lennon also gives a truly hilarious performance.

Of course, a lot of the humor comes from the fact that Mike is unrecognizable to his family and friends, and the mistakes he keeps making with his wife, who clearly has no clue that her hapless husband is now a 17 year old boy. Great trailer, great movie.
