Mechanic: Resurrection Trailer (2016)
Trailer for Mechanic: Resurrection, starring Jason Statham, Jessica Alba, Tommy Lee Jones and Michelle Yeoh.
Arthur Bishop (Statham) returns as the Mechanic in the sequel to the 2011 action thriller. When the deceitful actions of a cunning but beautiful woman (Alba) force him to return to the life he left behind, Bishop’s life is once again in danger as he has to complete an impossible list of assassinations of the most dangerous men in the world.
While the first film, The Mechanic, focuses on Arthur's training of a protege played by Ben Foster, the sequel is more of a straight-out action film with the premise centering on rescue and revenge. And speaking of Ben Foster, the actor was last spotted in the trailer for Inferno, which was released the very same day as this trailer for Mechanic: Resurrection.
Every time I see Jason Statham kicking ass and taking names I can't help think of the first time I saw the actor, which had everything but kicking. What movie was that? Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, where Statham played an Englishman who is part of a crew that gets mixed up in the criminal world after a hand of cards goes wrong.
For the most part -- save for his amazing role in Spy and that awesome stint in that weird LG commercial -- the actor has been ripping off his clothes and butt-kicking ever since.
Which brings us to the first trailer for Mechanic: Resurrection. To be perfectly honest, this film didn't have to be part of the Mechanic franchise, as it could have stood on its own two legs as just another Statham actioner. But I digress... We have Arthur Bishop, who seems to have gotten over his protege-betrayal from the first installment to trust once again. Well, trust the ladies at least, and who wouldn't trust Jessica Alba? That being said, we get a Taken situation when Alba's character is kidnapped, forcing Bishop to follow a kill-list if he wants to get her back. That brings in Tommy Lee Jones, who looks like an insane hacker from the 90s, which quickly involves into (you guessed it) butt kicking.
All the action looks terrific with just a splash of Crank-worthy over-the-topness.
The only thing that has us scratching our heads is whether or not that was Game of Thrones' very own Nikolaj Coster-Waldau who was swimming in that pool during the opening of the trailer. Looks a lot like him!
