Big-shot prosecutor Teodor Szacki (Robert Wieckiewicz) divorces his wife and leaves Warsaw to start a new life in the picturesque medieval town of Sandomierz, an area with a long history of anti-Semitism. He is soon called in to investigate a strange and bloody murder. The discovery of a large blade at the crime scene associated with kosher slaughter prompts some to suggest a Jewish connection.
While Szacki struggles to find the killer, victims are in no short supply, prompting a wave of anti-Semitic hysteria in the town.
