A sense of the surreal infuses this story about a group of Chinese ice sculptors brought to Finland’s biggest ski resort in the far northern territory of Lapland. Our guide is Huang Shen, a young Chinese man studying in Finland, who has been hired to dress up as a panda and wander the resort in an effort to attract visitors to the ice sculpture exhibit. The culture clash between the conservative Finns and their enterprising Chinese guests plays out in many small encounters, and with a wry Finnish sense of humour, the filmmaker is there to capture it all.
