Ignoring her domestic responsibilities, Nana leaves her husband and child to pursue an acting career in Paris. Presented in 12 chapters and featuring French actor Anna Karina's most iconic moments, the film details Nana's descent into prostitution and her eventual misfortune. VIVRE SA VIE was born out of the most unsettled time of Jean-Luc Godard's life. After a miscarriage and Anna Karina's infidelity, their marriage was on the verge of ending. During that period, Godard's A WOMAN IS A WOMAN failed at the box office. The crisis drove the director to rethink his technique and style and, as a result, he transformed the film into a tragic character study that ends sadly. When Godard premiered the film at the Venice Film Festival, it was booed after the first screening. Despite the initial reactions, the film won the Critics' Prize and the Special Jury Prize and is now considered Godard's finest masterpiece.
