One of Marvel's most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award-nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.

The initial idea of having a Venom spin-off came from the mind of Sam Raimi, with the release of Spider-Man 3. That film wasn't received as positive as Sony hoped, and the idea was scrapped soon after. The character was then brought up again while The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, starring Andrew Garfield, was in production. And, once again, the franchise could barely support itself, let alone a spin-off. With the re-launch of the Spider-Man franchise with Tom Holland, Marvel decided they would lend a hand to Sony. With their support, we finally have what is considered a "complex" Venom installment.

And, speaking of Tom Holland, it has been suggested that his Spider-Man will appear as a cameo.

It's rare to see a true "teaser" trailer nowadays, but this first preview for Venom definitely fits the bill. Not showing much save for a bit of dialogue, an explosion or two, and a shot of the symbiote itself, the trailer just gives enough to pique our curiosity.

Oh, and we absolutely adore Tom Hardy, so it makes sense that his character (and look) is front and center.
