Ukrainian Sheriffs Trailer

Trailer for Ukrainian Sheriffs.

Not much in the way of hard crime happens in Stara Zburjivka, a tiny Ukrainian village near Crimea. The occasional TV goes missing and someone may have slipped an anaconda into a woman's shed. With no police, the farming community is patrolled solely by two sheriffs, Viktor and Volodya. Sunglass-wearing, toothpick-chewing Viktor is the brains, while ex-bouncer and recent dad Volodya is the big-hearted heavy. Doling out law and order from their beat up yellow Lada, the odd couple settles skirmishes and corrals drunks. But when Kiev's Maidan Revolution strikes, a new reality hits. A strangely politicized air begins to blow, making new enemies of old townsfolk, and the sheriffs find they must safeguard democracy itself. The Crimean invasion is around the corner, and the Donetsk stand-off further still, allowing this IDFA Special Jury Award winner to capture the comedy and humble beauty of a pivotal moment in history.
