Tulip Fever Red Band Trailer

R-rated, red band trailer for Tulip Fever, which is now set to hit theaters on September 1st, 2017. Period drama stars Alicia Vikander, Dane DeHaan, Christoph Waltz and Holliday Grainger.

In 17th Century Amsterdam, an orphaned girl (Alicia Vikander) is forcibly married to a rich and powerful merchant (Christoph Waltz) – an unhappy “arrangement” that saves her from poverty. After her husband commissions a portrait, she begins a passionate affair with the painter (Dane DeHaan), a struggling young artist. Seeking to escape the merchant’s ever-reaching grasp, the lovers risk everything and enter the frenzied tulip bulb market, with the hope that the right bulb will make a fortune and buy their freedom.

This production has experienced nothing but problems. Tulip Fever was initially supposed to be filmed all the way back in 2004, but was quickly cancelled when the British government ended a tax break program for productions filming there. The result was about a 1/3rd increase to the budget, which just wasn't going to fly. Many years later The Weinstein Company came in to give the film a second chance.

Completing the production in 2014, they began to see delays after a test screening wasn't as positive as they might have hoped. The film has since been shelved more than a few times, with a final release set for September 1, 2017.

There was a lot of anticipation for this R-rated trailer, especially since showcasing a segment of it turned out too hot for broadcast. Not sure if this was a marketing ploy or not, but, if the trailer does anything, it once again proves that Alicia Vikander is comfortable in her own skin. After seeing her strut around fully naked in Ex Machina, we now know that Tulip Fever was the feature that likely got her used to being naked in front of a production crew.

Besides Alicia, who is stunning, how does the rest of the film look? As a period film, excellent, though I'm still not sure what genre this falls under. Romance? Or thriller?
