Trolls Feature Trailer (2016)
Third trailer for Trolls, which opens with an introduction from Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake.
Two trolls go on a quest to save their village from destruction by the Bergens.
Giving some sense of what it takes to deliver a computer-generated animation, Trolls took six years to finally wrap production after the idea to adapt the toys came to fruition. In 2010, Adam Wilson and Melanie Wilson LaBracio were initially set to write the screenplay. 20th Century Fox was hopeful to have the film ready for theatrical distribution by late summer 2015 with Chloe Grace Moretz and Jason Schwartzman set to star.
Obviously things did not go to plan. As holders of the intellectual property rights for the Trolls franchise, DreamWorks Animation took over the project in 2013 with their own idea for the film. Presenting an origin story that would also explain why the Trolls have crazy hair, the film would also be transformed into a musical comedy featuring a collection of song covers. Seeking a cast that has some history belting out tunes, Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake became the film's new leads. It took until the first days of 2016 to fill out the rest of the cast.
Taking advantage of Kendrick and Timberlake, the latest Trolls trailer borders dangerously close to being an "inside look" featurette. The preview not only shows footage from the film, but has its stars somewhat describe to audiences what's in store from the story and what makes it so special. Since the film will feature some recognizable tracks, it is surprising that they'd only preview a single one this time around.
Guess they want to leave some covers as a surprise for the audience. But then maybe they shouldn't have just shown us how the Trolls become so colorful. Seems like an extremely important moment in the film, but maybe we're just splitting hairs.
