Five former Special Forces operatives reunite to plan a heist in a sparsely populated multi-border zone of South America. For the first time in their prestigious careers these unsung heroes undertake this dangerous mission for self instead of country. But when events take an unexpected turn and threaten to spiral out of control, their skills, their loyalties and their morals are pushed to a breaking point in an epic battle for survival.
Triple Frontier has been in pre-production for years. As far back as 2010, the production was attempting to land big stars to the likes of Johnny Depp and Tom Hanks. And the attached names didn't stop there. Tom Hardy was at one time attached, as was Denzel Washington, Sean Penn and Channing Tatum. So obviously this production was hoping for an ensemble cast.
Even Mark Wahlberg considered taking the role now played by Ben Affleck. Tons of possible talent.
Netflix features have been hit and miss. Sure, they have some great originals that enjoy a creative freedom allowed by the premium network, but a couple easy-to-forget features as well. Triple Frontier showcases something high budget, to the scale of Sicario. At least, so it would seem. Top it off with this insane ensemble and we could definitely have something here.
