Plush Trailer (2013)

Trailer for Plush.

A young singer/songwriter, despite being married, becomes involved with her new guitarist, who she soon discovers has a dark past and may be a danger to her and those close to her.

Evan Rachel Wood was originally cast in the lead role of singer, Hayley. Wood has used her impressive singing voice for a few roles, most notably The Beatles-themed film Across the Universe. Browning, who eventually got the role, has previously shown off her singing skills for the Sucker Punch soundtrack with her stirring rendition of “Asleep” among others.

Director Catherine Hardwicke worked with Cam Gigandet in Twilight. Xavier Samuel also appeared in the Twilight Saga but not the first film. The later films were not directed by Catherine Hardwicke.

Plush Trailer Screencap

The Plush trailer seems like a deliciously bad but watchable VH1 original movie from the early 2000’s, and I mean that in the best possible way. Emily Browning has carved out her own niche as an ingénue in questionable films, her most notable being the lead in 2011’s Sucker Punch. Once again she plays a woman preyed upon, this time due to her fame as a lead singer of a popular band. At home, she has a handsome husband and some adorable kids, but quiet domesticity must be too bland because she throws herself into some affairs and sketchy places that attract the creeps.

The trailer starts out as more of a drama about a singer finding success but having to choose between that success and having a normal family life, but quickly turns into a thriller. She is a rock star so she partakes in parties, drinking, and apparently embracing “the dark side” as one of her bandmates suggests. There is a creepy fan in the mix, but the trailer suggests the emo band mate is not exactly a picture of stability and safety. Browning’s character has to deal with a few dark coifed dudes she is hooking up with along with a potential stalker?

There is just too much going on with this woman, not to mention she has some nice guy waiting at home for her. There is nothing but trouble laid out for all characters involved. I don’t know what it is about Plush, but the trailer does make the film seem interesting in a trashy way. It may even be a movie I won’t admit to watching later, but all common sense is out the window with this one and it feels exactly like the perfect movie to watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
