Feature trailer for Tomb Raider, starring Alicia Vikander, Hannah John-Kamen, Walton Goggins, Dominic West and Daniel Wu.
Lara Croft, the fiercely independent daughter of a missing adventurer, must push herself beyond her limits when she finds herself on the island where her father disappeared.
It's always good when the actor playing the title role knows the source material. The case holds true for Alicia Vikander, who was a fan of the video games growing up. That being the case, she almost lost the role to Daisy Ridley, who was too busy filming Star Wars installments to take on another franchise.
To be honest, glad she was busy, as Vikander fits the look better.
There has to be a training montage! You can't have a character who comes off so badass without an understanding of why. While the first Tomb Raider trailer hinted at some backstory, the second trailer provides a bit more depth to her lifestyle that conditioned her to be so tough. So, is this an origin story? Definitely seems that way, which obviously is a safe move by the studio.
Anything else worth pointing out? You know it! While the first half of the trailer is all build up, the shit hits fan in the latter half. Oh, and it is clear that they are constantly improving on the special effects.
