El Passajero is a motel that rents its uniquely decorated rooms by the hour. With customers coming regularly throughout the day, the chambermaids are quite busy changing sheets, polishing mirrors and cleaning ominous-looking sex chairs—all in a day’s work. The directors follow four women through their daily routine. Despite the sounds of ecstatic moans and banging headboards coming from the rooms next door, the women move happily through their day, spending time with the camera to reveal their most intimate thoughts on romance, love and independence. Between wiping cocaine dust from the nightstands and picking up beer bottles—among other detritus left by the carnal antics of the motel’s customers—the women tell their surprisingly unjaded stories, as if the cynicism one might expect to gain in working in a place like this has somehow made their belief in love even stronger.
