After unprecedented flooding in the remote Vermont mountains, strange stories surface of odd things found in the swollen rivers, in this adaptation of the classic story by H.P. Lovecraft. Albert Wilmarth, a folklore professor at Miskatonic University, at first dismisses these sightings as figments of hysterical imaginations. That is, until he begins to correspond with Henry Akeley, a farmer who claims strange creatures are terrorizing him. Eventually summoned to meet the decrepit Akeley, Wilmarth discovers unearthly horrors beyond comprehension, and undertakes one last desperate attempt to escape the remote New England hills with his life and sanity intact.
