The Time Traveler's Wife Trailer (2009)
Trailer for The Time Traveler's Wife.
Based on the best-selling book about a love that transcends time. Clare has been in love with Henry her entire life. She believes they are destined to be together, even though she never knows when they will be separated: Henry is a time traveler--cursed with a rare genetic anomaly that causes him to live his life on a shifting timeline, skipping back and forth through his lifespan with no control. Despite the fact that Henry's travels force them apart with no warning, Clare desperately tries to build a life with her one true love.
The film is based on a novel of the same name by Audrey Niffenegger. The rights to the film were purchased before the book was even released. The author wanted Adrien Brody and Lauren Ambrose to star as Henry and Claire. The roles instead went to Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams.
Steven Spielberg, Gus Van Sant and David Fincher were all considered as potential directors but negotiations fell through for all of them.
What is up with the trailer for The Time Traveler’s Wife? Is this supposed to be a romantic movie? It may be the most depressing and slightly disturbing movie that is made to look like a sweet romantic drama.
Rachel McAdams with all of her endearing and graceful qualities is completely wasted in this bizarre movie about a time traveling weirdo. Eric Bana who is always kind of off-putting anyway plays a man who can travel back and forth through time but completely unable to control when he leaves and returns. The trailer opens with him meeting a little girl (McAdams as a child) in the woods and telling her that he is her friend from the future when she is a lady, uh, STRANGER DANGER! He disappears magically, so of course, she just waits for years until she does meet him and becomes his wife. Maybe he was just a guy from the future who was asking out McAdams character so many times without any luck so he just went back in time and put it in her head that they become “Friends” when they are older, kids are so easily influenced.
The rest of the trailer shows him ditching her to go back in time and forward in time, and even seeing their daughter as a child when his poor wife is still pregnant. Frankly, this time traveler fella just seems like a jerk. Sure, he claims that he has no control over it but why should she believe him, he seems so insincere.
The trailer for The Time Traveler’s Wife is just so maddening and the fact that it is presented like a tragic romance ala Nicholas Sparks makes it seem even more ridiculous. Rachel McAdams is far too good for this bummer of a movie.
