Since the 70s, Tecnovar had been the leading Italian producer of antipersonnel and antitank explosives. Following his father's example, Fontana never questioned where his products ended up. But as demand for mines escalated in tandem with the brutal conflict in Yugoslavia, realization hit him hard.
