Trailer for The Secret Trial 5.

The Secret Trial 5 brilliantly captures the tragic stories of Muslim men detained under the Canadian government’s security certificates, an “immigration process” that allows for the indefinite jailing of non-citizens without charge—unless they agree to be deported to countries where they face serious risk of torture. Created in 1978, the process is intended to remove non-Canadians who might pose a threat to national security. However, all evidence—including hearsay and that obtained under torture—is concealed from the detainees and their lawyers, leaving them with virtually no way to challenge their imprisonment. This rare device has been used to imprison five Muslim men who, combined, have spent nearly 30 years in jail despite having never been charged with a crime. Human rights lawyers, the men's families and thousands of supporters challenge the constitutionality of these certificates. All the men want is a fair trial.
