The Santa Clause was a pivotal film in the history of Amalgamated Dynamics. It was the first project that began our long working relationship with Walt Disney Studios... and it presented us with the challenge of doing something very few makeup designers seldom get to do: make a lead actor fat, bare belly and all. Three months of R&D led to the jiggling, picture-perfect belly on Tim Allen during the doctor exam scene, while foam latex would be used for the various stage appliances on his face, arms, and legs, all showing a significant change in weight and appearance as the story progresses. But that was not all. ADI also built Santa's eight reindeer (all animatronic) as well as pointed-ear appliances and hair for Santa's elves. A lot of hard work for a very charming film.
