The Ridiculous 6 Trailer (2015)
Trailer for The Ridiculous 6, which will be released to and distributed by Netflix. An outlaw who was raised by Native Americans discovers that he has five half-brothers; together the men go on a mission to find their wayward, deadbeat dad.
The Ridiculous 6 is Adam Sandler's first Western, and the first of four original movies he will make for Netflix.
The movie was set to be produced by Sony Pictures, but they passed, and so did Paramount. Warner Bros. picked up the project but dropped it again when they learned of Sandler's Netflix deal.
More than 12 Native actors, as well as crew members, left the set in protest over the film's portrayal of the Apache culture.
Adam Sandler has made some great movies, such as The Wedding Singer, but he's also made some real duds (Jack and Jill, anyone?). It's frustrating to see it happen time and again because actually, he's a pretty decent actor. Sandler has the last laugh, though, because whatever the critics might think, he has a die-hard fanbase and his films always do well.
Sandler has recently signed a deal with Netflix to star in and produce four original movies for the channel, and his first offering is The Ridiculous Six. Starring a whole array of well-known names who seemingly have nothing better to do, or who simply want to end their careers early, The Ridiculous Six is a Western following an outlaw who discovers he has five half-brothers, and together they set out to find their deadbeat dad.
It's hard to tell this is a comedy from the trailer, because honestly I watched it and didn't even smile once. Given that I usually laugh at everything, that's quite an achievement. It's not just that it's lame, but it's tired too. Old gags that ceased to be funny long ago, before we all became more politically and racially aware.
Sandler and his team really need to take a long, hard look at what they're producing...or do they? People will watch this movie regardless of its trailer, and even regardless of the content. They will watch because they like Adam Sandler movies and all I can say to that is "To each their own."
I'm not a movie snob, in fact I really enjoy films that require little to no thought or effort to watch. I love to laugh at a film, and I genuinely would like to see Adam Sandler land another smash hit, but The Ridiculous Six won't be it.
