The Purge: Election Year Feature Trailer (2016)

Feature Trailer for The Purge: Election Year.

In 2025, two years after choosing not to kill Warren Grass, the man who killed his son in a drunk-driving accident, police sergeant Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) becomes head of security for Senator Charlene Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), the front runner in the next Presidential election due to her vow to eliminate the Purge after losing her family to sadistic murderers on Purge night 15 years earlier in 2010. The government secretly opposes Roan's campaign against the Purge, and plot against her to keep her from destroying the Purge. On the night of what could be the final Purge, a betrayal from within the government at the hands of the New Founding Fathers of America forces Barnes and Senator Roan out onto the street where they must fight to survive the night, and come across a group of anti-Purge rebels that support Senator Roan's campaign.

In August 2014, Jason Blum, who produced the Purge films, announced that a third installment was in the works. Blum speculated that the third film might be a prequel, focusing on the Revolutionaries and the first purge.

On October 6, it was announced that James DeMonaco would be back to write and direct the third film, while producers Sebastian Lemercier, Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum, and Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller would also be back.

The Purge Election Year Feature Trailer Screencap 1

Shooting began on September 16, 2015 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. The main street was transformed into the near future Washington, D.C..

Nathan Whitehead returns to score the film.

With the Purge films you know what you are going to get, violence and debauchery. So, I do like how this trailers start off with a the pleasant PSA put out by the government about how great the yearly Purge is and then everything turns into chaos.

How many Purge films will they make? I think just like the Saw franchise and Paranormal Activity franchise, they will continue until audiences stop seeing them. They are relatively cheap to make and do very well at the box office. The toughest part is coming up with a fresh story to keep audiences hooked and wanting more.
