Everybody should be giving a little bit of thanks to Shane Black. Hollywood, being Hollywood, first thought it a good idea to reboot the Predator franchise from the beginning. Another sign that the industry is short on good ideas. But then director Black came along and made a case that the mythology in this franchise has a ton more story to give. Looking at the past two trailers, this definitely seems the case! So, the 2018 The Predator is most definitely a sequel, expanding on the stories -- well, a couple anyway -- that have been told previously.
So much so that 20th Century Fox even reached out to Arnold Schwarzenegger about making an appearance. Still a chance for a secret cameo? Hmmmmmmmm.
I can't believe I'm saying this, as the Predator franchise has worn me thin, but this looks great. The red band trailer for The Predator goes a step further in depth. First, we have the military unit that has their own issues, long before even dealing with any invading aliens. So there is that.
But, another revelation, as it turns out that this Predator race has different levels of awesomeness. The one version, that we for decades thought was the alpha, turns out to be quite the little bitch compared to what is on display here. And with that comes more depth.
You see infighting amongst the branches of military, just as we see conflict from within this Predator race as well. Very interesting in deed!
Oh yeah, and a whole bunch of people get seriously f*cked up along the way.
